We found this place on a fluke, we happened to be in the Wal-Mart on Route 46 in Saddle Brook and found a menu for this place. At first I was shocked, I thought the Old San Juan restaurants in Manhattan had expanded across the Hudson. But no, this is a separate entity altogether.
It's a family run business that owned a place previously in Lodi, NJ. **See the fact they had a previous restaurant is why we need this blog!!** This location has been open for a few months already, maybe a bit longer.
Since we've been there a bunch of times, I'll spare you a long write up and go right to the details:
* The ambience is great, but better during the week. The secret's out and it's nearly impossible to score a table Friday & Saturday.
* It's BYOB, with a liquor store across the street.
* We haven't had all the entrees yet, but we've had the Chicharron de Pollo (boneless), Carne Frita de Cerdo, Churrasco all delectable to to date. They take great care preparing the dishes and if you're not passing the time with a beverage you'll notice a "delay" in the arrival of your dish. This "delay' is more notable on weekends.
* The appetizers we've had have been delicious!!! My favorite is the Queso frito con Platanos (Fried Cheese with Sweet Plantains). We've been hooked on the empanadas and I have been hooked on the Mofongo de Camarones. Sometimes we make a meal of the appetizers and order several of them.
Over time we hope the service will get better, I think they're just going through growing pain, this can be overlooked with how good the food is and plenty of booze to enjoy the Salsa music filling the restaurant.
